Type up and e-mail your entry on the topic "How can we create creative new solutions to end homelessness in a poor community" to djamesjefferson@gmail.com. 2 age categories: 13 & younger and 14+. Please specify your age group in your e-mail, and good luck!

The deadline is November 1st.

The North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) is the umbrella organizatino for many street newspapers, and has more information about them.

Our vision is that the economically disadvantaged have their needs met in a community where everyone is equally valued.

Mission:
We empower the economically disadvantaged in Greater Boston through self-employment, skill development and self-expression. By creating forums, including independent media, we reshape public perception of poverty and homelessness.

Spare Change is a community activist paper, and without the support of the Cambridge and Boston communities, we wouldn't exist.

Please, consider getting involved and giving back to Spare Change by volunteering, donating, or submitting story ideas. Look for more ways to get involved in the weeks and months to come as we offer additional functionality on our website.

Volunteer

As with so many non-profit organizations, HEP must rely on volunteers to help meet our mission. Current administrative volunteer opportunities include:

On-call reporters to cover events and news stories. Requires Journalism, English, and/or writing background.
Editorial assistants edit copy in our offices in Harvard Square. Requires editorial experience.
Artists provide pen and ink drawings to accompany articles. Requires skill in drawing people, and other topics as well.
Database input must be familiar with electronic databases. Also generates "thank you" letters.
Marketing create and implement a plan to develop greater awareness of HEP and Spare Change News in the greater Boston area.
Grant Writing Researching and Writing Grants.
Serve on our Development Committee which plans and implements marketing and fundraising activities.
Provide periodic support for fundraising activities such as assisting with mass mailings, helping at fundraising events, etc.
